Artwork Guidelines

Files types we’re able to work with

We can recreate your design from any of the following file types:

File types we're able to work with

Hi-res artwork is vital

Artwork must be supplied at 300dpi - high resolution. Any lower (like 72dpi web imagery for example) and it can be difficult for us to reproduce accurately. This is especially important for screen printing.

Hi-res artwork is vital

Use the right colour palette

It’s hugely important to make sure artwork supplied is in CMYK, the colour format used for printing. Anything supplied in on-screen RGB format can give incorrect results. Also, if you have any Pantone spot colours, we’ll do our best to match them.

Use the right colour palette

Convert your text

With millions of fonts online, we can’t possibly keep them all on file. Therefore, any specialised text must be converted to curves or paths. (This basically means the text becomes an object rather than a font and cannot be edited.) If this isn’t done and we don’t have the font used, we will have to substitute with a similar closest match.

If you’re not able to convert your text, you can alternatively inform us of the font used so we can try and source it.

Three ways of application

We have three industry-standard methods for reproducing and applying artwork to your garments. Each have there own merits and involve state of the art equipment. Read on to see which is best for you. Not sure? You can always contact us to discuss.

Embroidery

Embroidery

Why choose embroidery?

Nothing says quality like an embroidered company logo or text design on your clothing. Embroidery gives an unparalelled sense of professionalism and seamlessly becomes one with the garment. It’s also perfect for any material, be it Polo Shirt, Overall, Sweatshirt, Jacket or Hi-Vis. Embroidery is always the way to go.

Sizing

As standard, we produce embroidered designs at approx 10cm in length. (The same in height if necessary for a logo design.)

Colours

There is no real restriction when it comes to colours, as our machines can run 12 at a time. If you have specific colours you’d like us to match, we’ll use a comparable thread from our vast stock.

Positions

We’ll embroider your design in any of the following positions:

Font styles

We have five main styles of text to choose from, but can match any others you might have in mind:

Font styles

Text sizing

Any text as part of a design that’s less than 6mm in height can become illegible when embroirdered, so we always advise to keep lettering around 8-10mm.

Outlines

With the very nature of embroidery and slight garment movement, it can be difficult to guarantee exact alignment of design outlines, so we advise these are removed from artwork, if possible.

Gradients

These are gradual transitions from one colour to another. It’s extremely difficult to create this effect accurately in embroidery, so we advise designing any logos with block colours only for sharper, clearer results.

Drop shadows

Trying to create shadow effects in embroidery - particularly for text - can sometimes give inaccurate results, due to thread layering and slight garment movement, so this is another effect we advise is removed.

Screen Printing

Screen Printing

Why choose screen printing?

If it’s impact you’re looking for, screen printing is the ideal medium. Perfect for drawing attention from a distance, printing can cater for both intricate and big, bold designs, and is great on most garment materials including T-Shirt, Polo Shirt, Hoodie and Hi-Vis.

Sizing

Standard sizing for screen printing is roughly the equivalent of a landscape A4 page, but we are able to go bigger on request, for an additional fee.

Colours

We print up to a maximum of three colours, so this must be reflected in supplied artwork.

Positions

As standard, we’ll screen print your design in any of the following positions Others may be feasible on request:

Screen Printing positions

Line thickness

Any designs with lines less than 0.5mm thick may not expose onto our screens correctly, meaning these element will not print. Please make sure all lines are thicker than 0.5mm.

Text sizing

Any text as part of a design that’s less than 14 point size may become ‘fuzzy’ when printed, due to the very slight bleeding of ink, so we always advise to keep lettering above 14 point size.

Gradients

These are gradual transitions from one colour to another. As we use traditional screen printing techniques, it‘s extremely difficult to create this effect accurately, so we advise designing any logos with block colours only for sharper, clearer results.

Drop shadows

Producing shadows effects with screen printing is fine, so long as the shape lines are solid and, as above, do not use any gradients.

Colour-seperated files

When applying artwork, each colour within a design is assigned its own screen. Therefore, we ask all designs supplied are seperated into ‘layers’ to enable us to quickly process your order. If this process has to be done inhouse by our Artwork Team, it may delay proofing.

Heat Seal

Heat Seal

Why choose heat seal?

Used instead of screen printing for smaller order runs, heat seal is cut vinyl that is heat pressed onto a garment, giving the same impression and impact as a print. Mainly suited for bigger, bolder designs, heat seal is great on most garment materials including T-Shirt, Polo Shirt, Hoodie and Hi-Vis.

Sizing

Standard sizing for heat seal is roughly the equivalent of a landscape A4 page, but we are able to go bigger on request, for an additional fee.

Colours

There is no real restriction when it comes to colours, but we advise working with designs consisting of no more than three colours. This avoids any issues that arise when over- layering materials.

Positions

As standard, we’ll heat seal your design in any of the following positions Others may be feasible on request:

Heat Seal positions

Line thickness

Any designs with lines less than 2mm thick will be extremely difficult to cut and may cause some elements to break or crack. Please make sure all lines are thicker than 2mm.

Text sizing

As with line thickness, Any text as part of a design that’s less than 14 point size will be extremely difficult to cut and may cause breaking or cracking, so we always advise to keep lettering above 14 point size.

Gradients

These are gradual transitions from one colour to another and are not possible using the vinyl sheets used for heat seal.

Drop shadows

As with screen printing, producing shadows effects with heat seal is fine, so long as the shape lines are solid and do not use any gradients.

Colour-seperated files

Each colour within a design will be cut from different vinyl rolls. Therefore, we ask all designs supplied are seperated into ‘layers’ to enable us to quickly process your order. If this process has to be done inhouse by our Artwork Team, it may delay proofing.

Proofing your designs

Once we’ve set your designs up in your chosen mediums (depending on the time of year, this usually takes around 3-5 working days), we will email you to-scale proofs to look over and confirm. We want to make sure you’re 100% happy with what we’re applying and that you have faithful replications of your artwork, so will never go ahead with order processing until you have given us the nod. If there are any amendments to be made, we will always do our very best to accomodate your requests. Any large changes may incur extra charges, however.

Prefer to have an actual embroidered swatch sample posted to you? This is no problem whatsoever, but may delay order completion.
